David George Andersen: Word Play

This special exhibition is offered in memory of David George Andersen (1960-2017), a Salem artist who served as Exhibition Designer and Chief Preparator at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art from 2007-2016.
Andersen’s works garnered praise from other artists and many galleries. Andersen addressed the many hypocrisies of modern American life through his politically charged, irreverent, and whimsical mixed media assemblages. He used photography and found objects to create an artistic commentary on politics, religion, and issues of modern life. Andersen’s works were sometimes humorous and frequently provided piercing and thought-provoking perspectives.
Andersen’s art has been featured in numerous exhibitions, including the “Bellingham National 2015 Art Exhibition” at the Whatcom Museum, the “Shine a Light” and “The Art of Communication” at the Mary Lou Zeek Gallery in Salem, “COCA Northwest Annual” in Seattle, and galleries in Salem, Seattle, Spokane, Helena (Montana), Spokane, Boise State University, Cheney Cowles Museum and others. Many Northwest and California art collectors own his art, which focused on ceramics in his early years and sculptures in his later years.
Organized by Collection Curator Jonathan Bucci, the exhibition will feature a range of work created throughout Andersen’s career.
