Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts (CSIA) is located on the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in the foothills of the Blue Mountains, near the town of Pendleton, Oregon. Crow’s Shadow is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization formed in 1992 by local artists James Lavadour (Walla Walla) and Phillip Cash Cash (Cayuse and Nez Perce).

The organization’s mission is to provide a creative conduit for educational, social, and economic opportunities for Native Americans through artistic development.

Crow’s Shadow hosts 3 to 5 Artists-in-Residence per year, who typically spend two weeks in the studio working with CSIA’s Master Printer developing a new set of limited edition prints.

Crow’s Shadow Press has developed a reputation for publishing works by many of the most exciting contemporary artists in the region, both Native and non-native. CSIA also facilitates Creative Indigenous Arts workshops, inviting master artisans from various tribal areas to share their knowledge with the community.

Over the years Crow’s Shadow has evolved into a world-class studio focused on contemporary fine art printmaking and prints from the studio can be seen in institutions around the country.
